FEATURED PROJECT | Recreation Centres

Trail Memorial Centre Major Infrastructure Upgrades

Polar Engineering partnered with the City of Trail to complete several consecutive projects at the Trail Memorial Centre and Cominco Arena valued at over $5.5M, from initial feasibility study to detailed design and construction. The upgrades include replacement of the arena’s concrete slab, replacement of 14 rooftop air handling units (AHUs) connected to a new centralized hydronic loop, and installation of a fully custom high-temperature heat pump to recover waste heat from the ammonia ice plant. The upgrades are estimated to save the facility nearly $20,000 per year in utility costs. Polar helped the City to successfully secure $2.7M in grant funding to support the project, enabling sustainable recreation and community services for many decades.
